Bethlehem Farm, a nonprofit organization serving parts of Summers, Monroe, and Greenbrier Counties through low-income home repair, has created a new position of full-time House Manager.

Bethlehem Farm partners with low-income individuals and families to make necessary repairs on their homes, with the aid of week-long young adult volunteers from around the country. When week-long service-retreat volunteers serve at the Farm, they help cook meals and do chores around the farm. Bethlehem Farm is seeking a friendly, organized, and mission-driven House Manager to help welcome and teach these volunteers. The House Manager will coordinate meals, housekeeping, and hospitality for volunteers and staff at Bethlehem Farm. This is an on-site, full-time, salaried position based at Bethlehem Farm near Alderson, West Virginia. Hours vary seasonally, averaging 40 hours per week. Hours will be heavier during the 15–17 volunteer weeks per year, and lighter the rest of the year.

For the past 20 years, various live-in “Caretakers” have filled the role of House Manager. Eric Fitts, Director, stated that “It has become difficult to fill our live-in positions recently. We know there are many talented folks who already live in the local area, so our Board decided to offer the position as a full-time role for a person residing in the local area. We are confident that our community has the skills we need.”

Individuals who are interested in applying for the House Manager position should call Eric at Bethlehem Farm at 304-445-7143. More information about, and the application for, the position can be found at www.bethlehemfarm.net/hm.

Bethlehem Farm thanks its supporters, the 300 week-long service-retreat volunteers from around the county, and its hospitable local homeowners for a great year of “Repairing Homes and Renewing Communities” so far. As they move into their 2027 season, they are looking forward to working with more homeowners from the local area and volunteers from around the country.

When Bethlehem Farm partners with low-income individuals and families to make necessary repairs on their homes, applicants must provide the home repair supplies or consistent monthly payments for these supplies, while Bethlehem Farm provides free skilled and volunteer labor to enact the home repair projects. This summer, their volunteers constructed several porches and replaced many roofs in the local area, among other projects. The week-long volunteers enjoyed learning new skills, meeting local homeowners, and enjoying a conversation in the shade when they took a break from working on a hot roof. One high school volunteer from this year stated:

“The best part was the people! I loved hearing the homeowners’ stories. I feel at home in West Virginia.”

Bethlehem Farm is accepting home repair applications for 2027. Homeowners who are interested in applying for home repair help should call Marcus at Bethlehem Farm at 304-445-7143. www.bethlehemfarm.net/need-home-repair, homerepair@bethlehemfarm.net
