CHARLESTON, W.Va. (The Hinton News) – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a leader on the Senate Appropriations Committee, made stops in Charleston, W.Va. to view initiatives supporting small business and flood response efforts in West Virginia.
To begin the day, Senator Capito visited the Charleston Area Alliance where she toured their Small Business Incubator and Lift Center, which she helped secure funding for through a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) award. Additionally, Senator Capito received updates on the Ascend WV Charleston Area Program, which is attracting new residents to Kanawha County and communities across the state by providing expanded opportunities to live, work, and thrive in West Virginia.
“Charleston Area Alliance is in the middle of an exciting period— one that I have been proud to support through my work in the U.S. Senate,” Senator Capito said. “I appreciated the opportunity to see firsthand how federal resources are helping support the success of their Small Business Incubator, Lift Center, and Ascend WV Program. Through the CDS process, I’ve worked to strengthen our local economy, expand opportunity, and improve quality of life for families and businesses. Charleston Area Alliance has made great strides, and I’m proud to partner with them to keep that progress moving forward.”

Next, Senator Capito visited West Virginia 211 United Way in Charleston, W.Va. to learn more about their efforts to connect West Virginians to vital resources and services. West Virginia 211 has played a vital role in providing support for communities during the recent flooding events across West Virginia.
“It was encouraging to see the great work being done here at West Virginia 211 today. Following the recent flooding across West Virginia, having teams like this in place to provide direct support and resources to our communities is vital. I am proud of the work being done here and deeply appreciative of United Way’s efforts to support our state at all times,” Senator Capito said.
