CHARLESTON, W.Va. (The Hinton News) — The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources announced that dam modification work has begun at Bear Rock Lakes Wildlife Management Area in Ohio County. These improvements are designed to bring the dams into full compliance with the West Virginia Dam Control and Safety Act. Additionally, trails will be developed to improve fishing access around the lakes.
As part of the construction process, lake levels will be lowered for up to six months. During this period, fishing access will be temporarily closed due to active construction, limited parking availability and public safety considerations.
WVDNR encourages visitors and anglers to monitor the news for updates and plan accordingly while work is underway. Anglers can also reference the WVDNR interactive fishing map to find alternative fishing locations.
