ALDERSON- Leaving an occupation can feel like locking a door behind you, but in Abel and Leslie’s case, it only served to open the window into a new line of business, their food truck The Smash Shack.

The Smash Shack started as a collaborative effort between close friends. Abel’s background in film and food hospitality combined with Leslie’s experience in management gave them the skills they needed to run the food truck, and with the help of two close friends who own a food trailer they seldom use, the foundation was made.

The Smash Shack offers fresh, homemade Smash Burgers, Jumbo Hotdogs, and unique slushie flavors such as PB&J and strawberry cupcake. Their menu is “unapologetically over the top”.

Although Abel is originally from San Diego, and Leslie hails from Detroit, both grew up in Alderson and have a spot in their heart for the community. “We enjoy seeing our community face to face, and we encourage conversations while we cook for you.” Abel says.

The Smash Shack is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. You can find them around Alderson in popular locations such as the corner of Maple & Monroe, across from the river at the old Ashland station, and parked on the lawn at the Hugh Harris Insurance Company. Additional locations and hours can be found on The Smash Shack Facebook page.

With friendly, transparent customer service and a menu begging to be explored, the Smash Shack joins our community with a cheeky challenge: “What’s your Smash count?”
