A Peek into Summers County’s Past: Talcott School Question

TALCOTT, W.Va. (Hinton News) – I am again asking for your help with a piece in my collection. I received this photo many years ago. It is faintly identified in pencil: “Talcott School, Talcott, W. Va. 1888”. This is the only information I have about this photo.

It is unusual to see a two-story building as a school at that time around these parts. It appears to sit on an embankment that slopes towards the back of the building. The main part of Talcott is virtually flat terrain. So, unless this building sat up on the hill where the current Talcott Elementary is today, I couldn’t venture to guess where it was located in Talcott.

If you know any information about this school/school building, for example, if it was torn down or burned down. What year did either/or occur? Its location in Talcott, etc., please email me at greenbrierantiques@gmail.com.
