LEWISBURG W.Va. (Hinton News) – It’s that time of year when the leaves begin to change, the air gets crisp, and the days get short. For those who dare, it’s also the spookiest. When it comes to a good scare, nobody does it better than the creators of Miller’s Nightmare Haunted Farm. One of West Virginia’s most prominent haunted trails, this attraction is filled with escape rooms, games, creatures, a bonfire and even concessions.
As thrill seekers enter the farm, they will await their turn to tour the property under the autumn night sky. Many find the entrance to be frightful enough, but for those who continue, more chills lie ahead. “We go every year, and my grandkids never make it in,” says Lisa McCoy. “The people that come out of those houses scare them so badly that I have to sell my tickets to someone else. We love it, I think, because we never make it through,” she adds with a laugh.
For many, a trip to Miller’s Nightmare Haunted Farm has become an annual tradition. “We love it,” says Misty Walkup. “It’s the perfect amount of scary, and they switch it up a little every year, so it’s always a new experience.” This year, guests will notice several new additions. Among them, a new merchandise building, a new escape room, newly erected walls at the entrance and new creatures.
Guests will be greeted by a feeling of mystery as soon as they arrive. Once the tour begins, however, the real “nightmare” begins. Among the challenges, a rope bridge, dark corridors, trekking through the corn and woods, all the while finding themselves alongside some terrifying creatures.
While each year may be a little different from the one before, many people return for the same great experience-a good scare. “My son Bob and his family go there all the time, and they love it,” says Debra McCoy. For some, attaining a frightful experience may be a little more of a challenge, and Miller’s creatures do not disappoint. “We go every few years, says Cherry Clay-Blankenship. “We don’t scare easily, but the actors and the costumes are incredible.”
Miller’s Nightmare Haunted Farm is located on 260 Cabin View Lane in Lewisburg. Opening night will be Saturday, Sept. 27, at 6:30 p.m. The attraction will operate every Friday and Saturday throughout October and will conclude on Saturday, November 1. Gates will open and ticket sales will begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude at 10 p.m. All thrill seekers on site by 10 p.m. will be granted admittance. Ticket prices range from $22-$27 for regular admission, $42-$47 for a FastPass and $30 for a GamePass. Children under 5 are admitted free of charge. Visitors are advised to wear comfortable shoes for walking through the woods. Persons who are pregnant or prone to seizures are told not to enter the attraction.
