Melvin K. Turner
Melvin K. Turner, 89, of Zion Mt., Hinton, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at home, while out on the farm tending to cattle, something he loved doing.
As a young man, he dreamed of working on the Railroad and owning a farm. Melvin retired from CSX railroad as an engineer after 42 years of service, but his true love was working on his farm. Melvin was extremely proud of his family. Each grandchild had a unique place in his heart, especially Brantley, the apple of his eye.
Just shy by 21 days of turning 90, Melvin was born June 17, 1935, in Hinton to the late Norvel and Violet Hartwell Turner.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Carol Cantrell, Hazel Allen, and Judy Crook; and one infant brother, Kenneth.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Violet “Patsy” Meadows Turner; daughter, Pamela Dickenson (Benny); sons, Mitchell Turner (Sandy) and Greg Turner (Sherri); sisters, Nancy Duff (Bill) and Shirley Lilly (David); brother, Calvin Leroy Turner (Princess); grandchildren, Jason Dickenson (Susan), Benjamin Dickenson (Jamie), Brian Dickenson, Tyler Turner (Megan), John Ratliff, Jordan Berry (Cynthia), Chastity Ratliff, Tyler Lane (Alyssa), Ally Lilly-Turner (Bart); 18 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
He was a member of and faithfully attended Bellepoint Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Gary Trout and Ronald Cobb officiating. Friends could visit from 11 a.m. until the time of services on Monday at the Funeral Home. Burial followed in the family cemetery on the farm. The grandsons served as pallbearers.
