Summers County Humane Society/ACWP volunteer Martha Braswell receives a grant from the Hinton Area Foundation’s Greg Vandall (left) for $1500 to support K900 field trips to take a van full of dogs to a local park, on a designated day, in the hopes of drawing out new volunteers to come and meet the dogs and give them some exercise. Christina Cochran (right) explained, “It’s hoped these field trips will result in some new volunteers for the humane society, some happy pups, and more community awareness of what we do. The funding will offset the cost of gas to get the dogs back and forth, as well as lunch and other supplies for the volunteers.  There will be future details on this program and when the first dog walks will be."

Gerald Lee “Jerry” Richmond

Gerald Lee “Jerry” Richmond, 72, of Princeton, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024, with his beloved daughter, Jill, by his side.

Born November 13, 1951, in Hinton, WV, he was the son of late John E. Richmond and Lorna Peterson Richmond. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Gill Richmond; and young son, Craig Richmond. Before retirement, Jerry worked as a supervisor for the Mercer County Office of the WVDHHR.

Jerry was a staunch democrat and an avid sports fan. He enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams – the Atlanta Braves, WVU Mountaineers, and Denver Broncos. Jerry was kind and gentle and loved his family and pets immensely. Despite facing a chronic illness, Jerry’s love and dedication to his family never wavered.

He is survived by his daughter, Jillian Tieman and husband, Shane, of Princeton; beloved grandchildren, Sean and Allison Tieman, Everly and Emilia Webb, and Jaiden Horn; one brother, John Richmond of Ohio; one sister, Beverly Thompson and husband, Greg, of Roanoke, VA; longtime companion, Lottie Webb of Princeton; stepson, David Webb and his wife, Amanda, of Pittsburg, PA; plus a host of other nieces, nephews, stepchildren, and their families.

In keeping with Jerry’s wishes, he will be cremated, and there will be no formal services at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mercer County Animal Shelter in his honor.
