Julia A. Hanger

Julia A. Hanger, affectionately known as “Judy”, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, September 8, 2024, in Thomas, WV, at the age of 88.

Born on September 11, 1935, in Ashland, KY, she was the daughter of the late Julian Norris Wills and Lois Allen Wills.

Judy worked for many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She attended New Hope Methodist Church and supported her community by being a part of many clubs and organizations, such as the Marie Ruritan Club, Marie Friendship Club, Service Club, Willowwood Ladies, and she was a former member of the Women of Moose. She was a delight to be around and was a social butterfly. Judy enjoyed playing golf, Bunco, bowling, and quilting and loved cheering for the WVU Mountaineers. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew her.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harvey “Hank” Hanger; and sister, Mary Ellen “Sity” Guthrie.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Len Hanger (Lee) of Fayetteville, WV, and Rusty (Cheryl) of Bristol, TN; daughter, Lois Anne Nelson (Terry) of Thomas, WV; grandson, Len Allen Hanger (LeeAnne) of Little Mountain, SC; special friend, Debbie Wykle; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many special friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at New Hope Methodist Church in Marie, WV, on Thursday, September 12, 2024, with Pastor Mike Tabor officiating. Burial will follow at Hanger-Welch Cemetery at Muddy Creek Mountain. A visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Pivont Funeral Home in Hinton and from 10 a.m. until time of service, on Thursday, at the Church.

Pallbearers will be Randy Bragg, John Donnely, Len Hanger, Len Allen Hanger, Rusty Hanger, and Terry Nelson.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Marie Ruritan Club and New Hope United Methodist Church.
