Peggy Ruth Mann Cales

Peggy Ruth Mann Cales, 85, of 123 Crow Baptist Lane, Beaver, formerly of Hilldale, WV, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.

Born January 23, 1939, at Hilldale, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Ethel Tolbert Mann.

Peggy was a homemaker and maker of homes. She and Bobby built several houses in the Hilldale area from the ground up. She also worked for her sister, Jean, at Montgomery Wards for many years and spoke often of her fun times there. She was a graduate of Talcott High School and a member of the Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church at Hilldale. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, family, and food (especially ice cream and Diet Coke)!

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Robert Stokes Cales (Bob); a son, Dana Robert Cales; a brother, Lonnie Richard Mann (Dicky); and a sister, Jean Willey.

Survivors include two daughters, Deirdre Cales and Julie Cales of Minnesota; and a sister, Betty Puffenbarger of Locust Grove, VA; a sister-in-law, Ruth Baranowski of Belleville, TX; four grandchildren, Alicia Moye, Kristen Cales (Brent Hatcher), Greg Moye, and Ariel Smith (Greg Leija); and two great-grandchildren, Juliette and Leo Leija.

A celebration of life was held Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church at Hilldale. Burial followed at the Keaton Cemetery, Greenville, WV. Friends could call from 12 to 1 p.m. at the church. The family served as pallbearers.

A continued celebration of life gathering was held at 5 p.m. at the Dish Cafe – 1466 Ritter Drive, Beaver.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern WV/Bowers House.
