CHARLESTON W.Va. (Hinton News) – The board of directors of the West Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association (WVNLA) voted recently to contribute $2,500 to the West Virginia Extension Master Gardener Association to support its April 12-14 state conference at the Silver Maple Level.

Julie Robinson, WVNLA executive director, said, “Our board was unanimous in wanting to support the state’s master gardeners who we enjoy as partners in beautifying the Mountain State and promoting best practices in the green industry.”

There are active master gardener programs in 48 counties throughout West Virginia. These volunteers donate thousands of hours every year to help with community gardens, educating children about gardening and horticulture topics, creating display gardens that are used for educational purposes and more. In 2023, volunteers reported hours in their local communities that were valued at over $800,000. Its statewide membership of more than 1,200 master gardeners are frequent shoppers at businesses that supply seeds, plants, landscaping services, gardening tools, greenhouse supplies and other gardening essentials from local nurseries and garden centers.

The West Virginia Extension Master Gardener Association — now in operation for more than 30 years —  will be holding its annual conference on April 12-14 at the Canaan Valley Resort & Conference Center in Davis, West Virginia This event is designed to help educate its members on new and old gardening topics and help them learn about new varieties of plant material, both food crops and ornamental.
