CHARLESTON W.Va. (Hinton News) – James W. “Jim” McNeely has announced his candidacy in the 2024 Democratic Primary for the West Virginia House of Delegates, 40th District (Monroe and southeastern Summers Counties).
McNeely, a resident of Monroe County for 30 years, is a retired attorney and a former teacher, city administrator, and legislator. He was also elected to two terms as Prosecuting Attorney of Summers County. A Vietnam veteran, McNeely’s politics since his return from Vietnam over a half-century ago has been as a liberal Democrat. With that background, McNeely describes his campaign issues as “traditionally liberal, people-focused issues — issues such as diversification of the West Virginia economy, increased support for higher-quality public education, and more environmental protection for the land, air and waters of West Virginia.”
In summing up why he is running for the House of Delegates, McNeely stated that “in these challenging times the 40th Delegate District needs a Delegate with the political will, the qualifications and the experience to challenge special interests, support only what is truly in the public interest — and oppose what is not.” “I believe,” McNeely said, “that if the voters choose to give me the job that I can be that Delegate.”
