Nancy Jo Morris
Nancy Jo Morris of Lakeview, AR, took her last ride in her two-seater Ford Thunderbird on January 29, 2023, in Lakeview, AR, at the age of 99.
She was born August 22, 1923, in Hinton, WV, the daughter of Charles and Vera Lilly Young. Nancy was a 1941 graduate of Hinton High School. She went on to graduate from Clifton Forge RR Hospital School of Nursing and became a Nurse Cadet assigned to Camp Lee, VA, to provide care for the German prisoners of war and then Huntington, WV, C&O RR Hospital, where she met the love of her life, Gilmer Staten Morris, JR.
They were married May 31, 1946, in Huntington, WV. They moved to Peru, IN, where she finished her nursing career at Dukes Memorial Hospital and Grissom AFB. Over the years, Nancy drove a new Ford Thunderbird, every three years, from 1959-1997.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Nancy Gail Berkheiser of Lakeview, AR; brothers, Jack Young of Peru, IN, and David (Kyra) Young of West Lafayette, IN; grandchildren, Neisha (Mark) Anderson of Batesville, AR and Kylene (Jason) Maxwell of Flippin, AR; great-grandchildren, Julia and Landon Gross and Brayden, Noah and Ryley Jennings.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Jim Berkheiser; and sister-in-law, Pat Young.
A Funeral Service for Nancy was 2:30 p.m., Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel in Bull Shoals, AR, with Reverend Trent Means officiating. Visitation was Saturday, February 18, 2023, 3-5 p.m. Entombment was in Kirby’s Tucker Memorial Mausoleum, Mountain Home, AR.
Memorials may be made to the Multiple Hereditary Exostoses Research Foundation, 8019 Harbor View Terrace, Brooklyn, NY 11029 in honor of her great-granddaughter.
