ELKINS, W.Va., (Hinton News) – Monongahela National Forest invites everyone to visit Conservation Village at Elkins City Park during the Mountain State Forest Festival Oct. 6 and 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Conservation Village will feature informational booths from Monongahela National Forest as well as many of our partner organizations, including West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, West Virginia Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area, The Nature Conservancy and the American Forest Foundation.
The theme of this year’s Conservation Village is “Leave No Trace.” Visitors can expect to learn about The Seven Principles, an easily understood framework of minimum impact practices for anyone visiting the outdoors. In addition, staff will share important tips about fire safety and prevention.
During Kids Day at the Park Oct. 6, elementary students from Randolph County Schools will visit Conservation Village to learn about Leave No Trace during a fun, interactive activity.
