MITCHELL

Ramona Cathryn Mitchell, 82, of Forest Hill went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 11, 2022 at her home in Forest Hill.

Born July 7, 1939, in Hinton, WV, she was a daughter of the late William Leo and Julia Frances Harvey Kessler.

She married the love of her life, Charles William “Bill” Mitchell, on January 20, 1958, in Hinton, WV, and they celebrated 64 years together in Forest Hill, where they raised their three children and were blessed with the addition of five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ramona was a graduate of the 1957 Class of Forest Hill High School, Concord College, and West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. Retiring from Giles County Public Schools, her memorable teaching career spanned 27 years in classrooms across Summers County, WV and Giles County, VA.

She was actively involved with her church, Fairview Baptist in Forest Hill. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and vacation Bible schools for many years, as well as participating in several missionary trips.

Besides her love for the Lord and her family, Ramona enjoyed traveling. Many special memories were made while traveling with her family, including with the Farley family and with close family friends, the Mashburns of Youngstown, OH.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Kessler; along with brothers-in-law, Stanley Farley, Bart Doring, James Mitchell and wife, Helen; and sister-in-law, Eula Sheats and husband, Al.

In addition to her husband, Bill, she leaves her three children, Billy Brian Mitchell and wife, Kathy, of Forest Hill, Keith Mitchell and wife, Debra, of Beavercreek, OH, and Patricia Young and husband, Jeff, of Forest Hill. She also leaves behind her grandchildren that she was so proud of, Christopher Mitchell of Hinton, Jason Mitchell of Tallahassee, FL, Sarah Mitchell of Beavercreek, OH, Michelle Lucas and husband, Justin, of Forest Hill, and Samantha Mitchell of Beavercreek, OH; great-grandchildren, Preston Mitchell, Hannah Lucas, and Jazzlyn Lucas.

Ramona is survived by her siblings, Betty Farley of Poland, OH, Madeline Doring of Trinity, TX; and sister-in-law, Starr Kessler of Shelby, OH; many special nieces and nephews, whom she loved and was so proud of, from West Virginia, Ohio, Texas, and Delaware also survive.

A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2022 at Fairview Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Drake officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Friends could call from 11 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the church. Serving as pallbearers were family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox ministry of Fairview Baptist Church or to Hospice of Southern WV.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.ronaldmeadowsfp.com.

Arrangements are by the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors of Hinton.
