On Tuesday, April 13 the Summers County High School boys Bobcat Baseball team traveled to James Monroe High School. The Bobcats struggled to get their bats going against James Monroe’s pitcher, Andrew Hazelwood. Freshman Brandan Isaac played great defense at shortstop for the Bobcats, getting multiple outs throughout the game. Seniors Gracin Price and Logan Fox pitched for the Bobcats. Unfortunately, the Bobcats fell short and lost the game 3-0.
On Friday, April 16, the Bobcats traveled to Bowen Field in Princeton to take on Bluefield in the Coppinger Tournament. The Bobcats watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 18-2 loss. Senior Logan Fox, freshman Brandan Isaac and senior Daniel Mansfield managed one hit apiece.
On Saturday, April 17, the Bobcats (A, in baseball) went to Hunnicut Field to take on Woodrow Wilson (AAA) in the Coppinger Tournament. It was a close game for the Bobcats. The Bobcats managed to get four runs in the fourth inning. The Bobcats put the pressure on in that inning, led by a walk from freshman Ben Lane, a single from senior Levi Jones, and a double from senior Logan Fox. The Bobcats had the lead until the game tied at four in the bottom of the seventh, when Woodrow Wilson’s Vaught doubled, allowing Woodrow Wilson’s Lovell and Payne both to score. Woodrow Wilson then took a walk with the bases loaded, scoring a run and ending the game 5-4.
The Bobcats will host their first home game on Thursday, April 22 at 5:30 p.m. against Greenbrier West.
