West Virginia Congresswoman Carol Miller has been appointed to a new committee. In a press release issued on Feb. 4, Congresswoman Miller made the announcement that she had been appointed to the United States House Ways and Means Committee. This makes her the first West Virginia Representative in 72 years and the first female West Virginia representative ever to be appointed to this committee.
This committee is the oldest in the United States Congress. It has jurisdiction over issues such as health care, taxes and trade. Within this committee are subcommittees two of which Congresswoman Miller will serve. The first is the exclusive Trade Subcommittee and the second is the Worker and Family Support Subcommittee.
Congresswoman Miller is quoted in the press release as saying “It is my distinct honor to be selected to serve on the Ways and Means Committee, which is the decision-making power on issues critical to West Virginia – trade, taxes and health care. I am proud to give West Virginia a seat at the table on these issues, which affect their families, communities and businesses every day.”
She goes on to say that she intends to continue advocating for “the modernization and revitalization of our region through increased foreign investment and trade.”
