Per the Summers County Health Department, updates have been made by the state of West Virginia to the required length of time a person must quarantine after COVID-19 exposure. These changes went into effect on Dec. 7, 2020.
There are now three options. The first option states that quarantine may end after the tenth day without testing under the condition that no symptoms have identified during daily self-monitoring.
The second option states that quarantine may end after the seventh day. The conditions are that the person must test negative by either PCR or Antigen test and no symptoms present during daily self-monitoring.
The third option states that quarantine may end after the fourteenth day without testing.
There is a slight residual post-quarantine chance of transmission. For option one, the rate is between one and ten percent. For option two, the rate is between five and twelve percent. The rate for option three is between zero and three percent.
The exceptions for these options are residents of assisted living facilities, nursing homes and other long-term care facilities as well as correctional facilities.
These new guidelines only apply to those that are considered contacts as of Dec. 7, 2020.
“The health department is not responsible for the adoption of these guidelines. They have been issued by the State of West Virginia,” officials from the health department said in a released statement.
