Members of Lighthouse Beams youth group of Pence Springs Community Church is trying to keep their lives as “normal” as possible.
The group took a break after Christmas and was planning an Easter egg hunt with all the goodies that go with along with that when COVID-19 came to town. The eggs were put away and the prizes are still waiting to be won.
The church shut its doors for three weeks then began holding outdoor services in Jeff and Shirley Stewart’s field. Members were glad to get back together.
Finally on May 10, worshippers were back in the church once again where they sit in every other seat, wear masks and pray for God to keep everyone safe.
The May revival services were cancelled. The graduation dinner for Erin and Madison Persinger was cancelled. Erin graduated from Greenbrier East High School and Madison graduated for Marshall University. Pence Springs Community Church members wish them both all the best.
Vacation Bible School was the next thing to be cancelled leaving churchgoers “at loose ends.”
However, in August there were two baptisms. Shenandoah Cochran’s children, Ann Marie Taleno and Daniel Pearson were baptized at the Parkin’s river property at Riverside Rest on August 9.
The annual Sunday school picnic was supposed to be held August 9, but church organizers thought better of the idea. A fishing event is usually scheduled for September, but concerns for safety caused it to be cancelled. The October revival was also postponed.
However, Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes will still bless the children this year. The final plan for 2020 was to be the annual Christmas play.
“It is sad to think of it not happening, but as of now we can’t do it safely for the cast, crew or the ones attending,” said Renee Kounse in a press release. “We will do our best to get back on that stage next year and everyone is invited to come and see the play.”
