CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Hinton News) — Donald Lee Bennett of Martinsburg became the newest member of the West Virginia House of Delegates on Wednesday, April 1.

Delegate Bennett was sworn in using a well-worn Bible he brought for the occasion, held by his wife, Beth, as the oath of office was administered by House Clerk Jeff Pack. The Bennetts’ daughters, Emily and Brena, stood nearby. Bennett was appointed to fill the vacancy in the 94th Delegate District following the death of Delegate Larry Kump. The district covers a portion of Berkeley County.

Bennett is a U.S. Army veteran who owns and operates a small business and works as an account manager. He said he hopes to work within the Legislature to address the state’s population loss.

“I believe West Virginia needs to push forward on innovation to keep people from leaving my county,” he said.

His committee assignments will be listed on the West Virginia Legislature’s website at a later date.
