Phylis Vandall Foster
Phylis Vandall Foster, of Hudson, NC, formerly of Sandstone, WV, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her daughter, Lori, and her son-in-law, Grumpy Cales, at Atrium Health Main in Charlotte, NC, on March 5, 2026, following a brief illness. Phyllis was born in Summers County, WV, to the late Ulysses Earl Vandall and Ina Noel Taylor Vandall.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Lewis, who passed away in 1986; son, James Lewis, Jr.; daughter, Robin Gaynell; and four brothers and five sisters.
She was a homemaker and member of Sandstone Baptist Church in Sandstone, WV. Phyllis moved to North Carolina to be with her daughter, Lori, in 2015. She has enjoyed her time with her family and extended family while being in North Carolina. She also enjoyed her time traveling back to her hometown in West Virginia.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Jennifer Newcomb and husband, David, of Prospect, VA, Lori Cales and husband, Grumpy, of Granite Falls, NC; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister; several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
There will be no services per her request.
