HINTON, W.Va. (Hinton News) — The Summers County Commission has released the official 2026 holiday schedule for the county courthouse, outlining more than a dozen days when local government offices will be closed.
The schedule, signed by Commission President Charles W. Saunders, includes standard federal and state observances, as well as several extended holiday breaks.
According to the announcement, the courthouse will be closed for the following dates in 2026:

New Year’s Day: Thursday, Jan. 1

Martin Luther King Day: Monday, Jan. 19

Presidents’ Day: Monday, Feb. 16

Memorial Day: Monday, May 25

West Virginia Day: Friday, June 19

Independence Day: Friday, July 3

Labor Day: Monday, Sept. 7

Columbus Day: Monday, Oct. 12
-
Veterans’ Day: Wednesday, Nov. 11

Thanksgiving: Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27

Christmas: Friday, Dec. 25
-
New Year’s Day (2027): Friday, Jan. 1
The commission noted that the schedule includes all holidays granted by the governor of West Virginia. Additionally, any days or partial days designated as time off under West Virginia Code 2-2-1 will be incorporated into the county’s paid holiday schedule.
For holidays designated as “half-day holidays,” the courthouse will maintain limited morning hours, operating from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
