Summers County Humane Society/ACWP volunteer Martha Braswell receives a grant from the Hinton Area Foundation’s Greg Vandall (left) for $1500 to support K900 field trips to take a van full of dogs to a local park, on a designated day, in the hopes of drawing out new volunteers to come and meet the dogs and give them some exercise. Christina Cochran (right) explained, “It’s hoped these field trips will result in some new volunteers for the humane society, some happy pups, and more community awareness of what we do. The funding will offset the cost of gas to get the dogs back and forth, as well as lunch and other supplies for the volunteers.  There will be future details on this program and when the first dog walks will be."

Levi Jones and Gavin Pivont

Mr. and Mrs. Lee and Dena Pivont are thrilled to announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Gavin Leigh Pivont to Mr. Levi Dalton Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Geoff and Renae Jones. Gavin is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray and Donna Pivont and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Wykle. Levi is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Carolyn Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Mike and Linda Brandon.

Gavin and Levi were both born and raised in Summers County.  They were rivals in the third grade during Academic Roundup but became friends in the 7th grade at Summers Middle School. This friendship grew to become something stronger when they entered their sophomore year at Summers County High School.  This romance continued for six years until December 22, 2024 when Levi surprised Gavin with a proposal at Rockefeller Center in New York City.

Gavin will graduate on May 16, 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and plans to work at Ruby Memorial in Morgantown, WV in the CVICU.  Levi is a Foreman for Pillar Innovations in Morgantown.

The happy couple are planning a ceremony to be held in September 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hinton, WV with a reception following at Mia Bella in White Oak, WV.
