Patricia Via Kerns

In loving memory of Patricia Via Kerns, born on November 17, 1947, in Hinton, WV, and peacefully passing away on November 9, 2023, in Cumming, GA.

Patricia’s journey began in a wonderful home filled with laughter and love. In her youth, she embraced life by playing basketball, singing in weddings, painting, and strumming the guitar.

Destiny led her to Steve, who she met on a blind date, and together they built a family. Her children, Robyn and Brian, became the lights of her life, until her grandchildren — Ashley, Vova, and Alexis — captured her heart as well.

A dedicated nurse, Patricia’s passion for helping others extended far beyond retirement. Her wisdom and kindness provided solace to those seeking medical advice and assistance. She was the first call many made when finding themselves, or a loved one, with a medical emergency.

In the tapestry of her post-retirement years, Patricia wove a profound commitment to animal welfare, particularly sea turtles. Her tireless efforts in rehabilitating and safeguarding their nests spoke to her love for these creatures. At the aquarium, she shared her knowledge and advocacy, leaving an indelible mark. She didn’t meet anyone that didn’t learn at least one fact about a turtle.

Her canine companions were numerous, but Nala held a special place in her heart, and Patricia eagerly anticipated their reunion in Heaven.

Patricia’s warm spirit knew no strangers, and her generosity touched countless lives. Beautiful inside and out, she loved God, her family, nature – mountains and the beach, and college football. She was always out and about, except for the Saturdays of college football season.

She was looking forward to making more memories like watching her son marry a beautiful woman, whom she loved like a daughter; her grandchildren’s graduations/weddings; and traveling, but that wasn’t in God’s plan.

Even in the face of cancer, Patricia exemplified strength, compassion, and grace. Her journey was a lesson in wholehearted love and boundless compassion, touching everyone fortunate enough to know her. Patricia’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched.

Forever missed, she leaves a void that only memories of her enduring love and compassion can fill. She leaves behind her husband, Steve; son, Brian and future daughter, Johanna; and daughter, Robyn and her family, Philip, Alexis, Ashley, and Vova; her sister, Nana Watkins and her family; and her sister-in-law, Regina Kerns and her family; along with loads of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Donald and Lottie Via.

Memorial Services will be held at future dates in North Carolina and West Virginia.

Condolences may be made at www.ingramfuneralhome.com.

Ingram Funeral Home, 210 Ingram Ave., Cumming, GA 30040, is in charge of arrangements.
