HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) – The City of Hinton released the following announcement regarding the 2025 spring clean up:

There will NOT be a cleanup by the City in the spring of 2025. Spring is an extremely busy time for our Public Works Department so we are scheduling the pick-up for the 2nd and 3rd weeks of September of this year. Our original restart of the program 5 years ago was in the fall. In those 5 years we hauled over 300 loads to the Raleigh County Landfill. This effort was to help us clean up unsightly and unnecessary debris left behind by former landowners and tenants that were highly visible throughout the City.

The program has made a difference. We hope to continue the annual pick up but want to remind you it is the landowner and or tenants’ responsibility to remove trash from their property.

If you live in the City you are required to maintain service with Southern Sanitation. This provider will take 1 larger/bulky item each month for you IF notified ahead of pickup. If you have an immediate need then contact Southern Sanitation or please take the item to the landfill yourself.

Thank you for your co-operation and help in keeping the City clean.

Summers County Humane Society/ACWP volunteer Martha Braswell receives a grant from the Hinton Area Foundation’s Greg Vandall (left) for $1500 to support K900 field trips to take a van full of dogs to a local park, on a designated day, in the hopes of drawing out new volunteers to come and meet the dogs and give them some exercise. Christina Cochran (right) explained, “It’s hoped these field trips will result in some new volunteers for the humane society, some happy pups, and more community awareness of what we do. The funding will offset the cost of gas to get the dogs back and forth, as well as lunch and other supplies for the volunteers.  There will be future details on this program and when the first dog walks will be."
