Letter to the Editor and professing Christians:
If you are thinking that both presidential candidates are less than desirable, and as result, you may not be inclined to vote for either, I would like for you to take a few moments to consider, not the individual candidates, but the platforms of both the major parties.
I looked them up and this is what comes up as the concise Republican platform:
“Our platform is centered on stimulating economic growth for all Americans, protecting constitutionally-guaranteed freedoms, ensuring the integrity of our elections, and maintaining our national security. We are working to preserve America’s greatness for our children and grandchildren.”
The following is from the Democratic platform-just under the topic of “Reproduction Rights.”
“Democrats want to codify Roe v Wade into law to protect women’s freedom to make their own health care decisions.”
“Joe and Kamala took action”…which “includes signing three executive orders…for a woman’s right to emergency medical care, defending and expanding access to medication abortion, and strengthening access to birth control….Joe and Kamala are fighting to restore the protection of Roe-they will never allow a national abortion ban to become law.”
Did you see any reference to the freedoms and rights of the unborn babies (or in several states, including Walz’s, those already born)? Weren’t these babies created in God’s image? They do not mention that the U.S. Supreme Court has already ruled that the individual states have the right to decide about the abortion issue. Do they plan to sign another “executive order” to overrule the Supreme Court and re-instate Roe v Wade for the whole country, ignoring states’ rights?
If we look at the abortion issue alone, as believers, we must realize that ‘taking innocent lives” is an abomination to God. The National Right to Life documents state that between 1973-2019, 63,439,781 little lives have been snuffed out! We are five years past this date and number! The CDC collects these numbers voluntarily from state health departments, and their records show that “California, New Hampshire and at least, one other state” have given no numbers to the CDC since 1998! How about choosing a candidate who is committed to “protecting constitutionally-guaranteed freedoms?” If we vote for someone who stands for legalizing abortion, even up to birth, are we not complicit to the Increased murdering of untold thousands of innocent, helpless individuals?
If we, as professing followers of Christ, consider this issue only (babies’ rights vs women’s desires), we should feel compelled to look seriously at the party platforms and vote to slow the rate of these senseless deaths. We are in a unique situation now where we can honestly examine the actual party platforms, as well as, the track records of both administrations to see what they have actually done while in office. It is our civic duty in our representative republic, as well as, our moral duty before a holy God, to vote! If we do not, then we will have more innocent blood on our hands.
May God have mercy on our country, and may all of us prayerfully consider what issues we should vote for or against, and then, get out there and vote!
A seriously concerned citizen and believer,
Betty Day – Nimitz
