Hinton’s Second Saturdays Color the River annual event is planned for Saturday, June 12 at 9 a.m. Second Saturdays is a community organization putting on events every second weekend of the summer months.

This year’s put in will be at Camp Berry’s John Henry Campground in Pence Springs. This is located off Lowell Road and then Hammer Lane. Parking at the put-in location is $5.

The takeout will be at the Talcott Public Access across from the John Henry Museum. Berry’s Campground will provide shuttle rides back to the put-in location for $2 per person.

A liability agreement form provided to you at the put-in location must be filled out. All DNR safety rules must be followed, including the wearing of life jackets.

If you don’t own equipment to float, Berry’s Campground will be renting everything from tubes, kayaks, duckies, rafts, and life jackets. There is no cost to float, but donations will be accepted for the Color the River Cancer Fund.

After the Color the River event, there will be live music, food, and craft vendors on the Courthouse lawn. Local band, OYB, from the Beckley area will kick things off at 5:30 p.m. followed by Ben Hersman and The Sons of the Mountains at 7 p.m. This is a rain-or-shine event.

The water levels will be monitored by the Second Saturday’s committee and the float will be canceled if it is too dangerous to float.
