After a positive case of COVID-19 was identified at the Summers County High School 150 students were sent home to quarantine on Thursday, April 29. SCHS Principal, Daniel “Al” Hudgins provided a statement saying, “we are sending out a school messenger statement to the students and their families.” He went on to say, “we have a positive case, but in high school, when you have seven class periods a day, every class that that one kid was in, every kid in that class would have to be quarantined. Hudgins continued by saying, “…working with the central office and the health department, we checked attendance records and any student who had been in contact with that child on Tuesday was notified that they would need to be quarantined as prescribed by the CDC and the Summers County Health Department.”
Hudgins also said, “We have taken proper precautions, we are making sure our kids are isolated that were exposed and working in conjunction with the central office and the health department. Those kids have been notified of the quarantine dates and have either been put on a bus home or signed out to drive home or picked up by their parents.” According to Principle Hudgins, more information will be provided by the board office later in the day regarding tomorrow.
Reportedly, a positive case was also identified at the Hinton Area Elementary School the previous day, Wednesday, April 28. No confirmation or statement has yet been received on this matter.
